Rick DeMattia, Accompanist

Rick is a graduate of the Kent State University, with a Bachelor of General Studies degree in the Honors College. He began his piano studies at an early age with his mother Catherine. His subsequent teachers were Kay McKay, Arthur Reginald, Frederic Schoettler and, at Kent State University, Jerry Davidson. While in high school, Rick served as rehearsal accompanist for classes at the Dance Institute of the University of Akron. At KSU Rick also studied harpsichord with Ruth Nurmi, and provided piano accompaniment to student recitals and professional auditions. In recent years he has been coached and advised by Ann Waters.

In addition to his responsibilities to the Ravenna Community Choir he has been organist and choir director at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Macedonia since 1999. Since 2010 he has had the opportunity to play in the Stow Symphony Orchestra. In March 2016 with violinist Ian McIntyre he performed the Haydn Concerto for Violin, Piano and Strings Hob. XVIII:6*, and in March 2019 the Haydn Piano Concerto in G Hob. XVIII:4, both with the Stow Symphony. He served as rehearsal accompanist for the Stow Symphony Chorus' Messiah, Mozart Requiem, and Beethoven Ninth Symphony rehearsals. He enjoys chamber music reading sessions with friends, and in 2013 joined with his uncle, brother, sister-in-law and other professional musicians to present three chamber music concerts to benefit two well regarded charities. He and his wife Mara live in Shalersville with the youngest of three marvelous daughters.
