Ravenna Community Choir
|
About Us/JoinRavenna Community Choir (RCC) is an active group of citizens from Ravenna, Ohio, and surrounding communities. Our membership consists of people ranging in age from 18 to 80 from various religions and walks of life. Since the choir was founded in 1975, we have provided at least three major concerts each year for our community. |
Included in our repertoire is a varied mixture of sacred and secular music. We have performed classical sacred music as well as traditional hymns, inspiring spirituals and contemporary cantatas. Much of our sacred music comes from today's most prolific sacred music composers including Joseph M. Martin, Pepper Choplin, Mark Hayes, Mary McDonald and Heather Sorenson. Our secular music has included some rousing patriotic numbers, beautiful folk songs from our country's past, popular show tunes and an occasional number from America's contemporary rock composers.
In addition to our three major hometown performances each year, the Ravenna Community Choir also travels as often as it can raise the money to do so. Beginning with a trip to Washington, D.C., to represent Ravenna during our bicentennial celebration in 1976, the choir continued to take its show on the road by performing in Indiana; Pennsylvania; Toronto, Ontario; New York; Tennessee; Michigan; Maine; North Carolina; Massachusetts; Missouri; West Virginia and Kentucky.
The RCC was established in 1975 exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and is an IRS 501(c)(3) corporation. As stated in the Member Handbook, the purposes of the organization are to:
RCC by-laws state that members must be adult (at least 18 years of age) or a high school senior, must participate in rehearsals and choir functions, and must begin attending by the third rehearsal of each session.
